Introducing Traffic Replay

Introducing our next generation traffic management intelligence: Traffic Replay

It’s been an extremely busy start to 2021, and here at one.network we’ve felt that keenly. That’s why we’re especially proud to announce the platform’s first new module of the year: Traffic Replay is now live.

So what is it, and how can it be used? Have a quick read to hear what we (and one of our customers) have to say.

Traffic Replay: what does it do?

Our brand new Traffic Replay module isn’t like much else on the market. It lets users locate traffic disruptions up to 13 months in the past, and visualise what happened to traffic there as if it were happening now. That means you can slip back in time to whenever a road was closed for works, or there was a road traffic collision. Put simply, you choose a date and time on our map, then just hit ‘play’ to watch traffic unfold — discovering which diversion routes were used or avoided, how congestion changed, how journey times differed, and more.

Traffic Replay also integrates seamlessly with our Historical Map and Traffic Management modules, so you can analyse historical traffic patterns across every UK road network and leverage historical data instantly. No more waiting for data to deploy from storage!

How can Traffic Replay help you?

The advantage of Traffic Replay is that it lets organisations plan for future roadworks in a completely new way.

With the ability to replay previous disruptions across all road networks, users can now perform post-incident reviews and learn from the past, letting them adapt and improve their plans for future road events — as well as identifying previously successful strategies.

Traffic Replay is also an incredibly useful tool for training.

Highway authorities in particular can use the technology to train their network managers in works planning, and getting to grips with the impact of works on road users.

Even better: by enabling post-incident reviews, Traffic Replay provides teams with the data they need to evidence road improvements — demonstrating how specific solutions mitigated the impact of an incident or event. And if you need to understand how an incident evolved in the first place, or how to prevent a future event turning into a major traffic disruption, Traffic Replay can help there too.

What do users think of it?

We caught up with Richard Burnett, who manages road events and the Integrated Highways Management Centre for Cambridgeshire County Council – one of the first one.network customers to try the new tool. Here’s what he had to say about Traffic Replay.

“Within Cambridgeshire, the IHMC uses a suite of one.network modules to aid us in delivering our network monitoring solution, while also keeping the public and our partners informed of any incidents or potential issues.

One of the latest tools is the Traffic Replay module, which has dramatically filled a gap in our service provision by providing an easy-to-use, graphic-based product that enables us to answer any queries about previous performance on the network instantaneously, on many occasions disproving myths about serious congestion issues — as well as occasionally confirming them

This has proved invaluable across the county, but especially within Cambridge itself, which is a challenging city for geographical reasons, as well as because of all the new development currently going on at present.”
