It is wonderful to celebrate the amazing work happening across the country, creating great, sustainable places for people to live, work and thrive.”
The Deploying Digital Innovation & Technology category, sponsored by Kier, showcases digital innovation and innovative approaches across the sector, that are sustainable, resilient, accessible and promote wellbeing.
Elgin with Ringway and Ringway Jacobs, working with Hertfordshire and Essex County Councils respectively, won this award with a collaborative project that delivers live road closure and real-time roadworks information to sat-nav devices across the two counties.
It is designed to assist with the planning, monitoring and communication of the disruption caused by roadworks and incidents. It provides real-time congestion monitoring across Hertfordshire and Essex and also offers the unique capability to influence journeys by delivering live road closure information to sat-nav devices, either direct from the roadside or from the Traffic Control Centre.
Results have shown that solution saved drivers time by communicating accurate live information. It also increased live traffic monitoring capability across Hertfordshire and Essex from 5% to 40%, without the need to use expensive roadside monitoring equipment.
The Real-Time solution offers:
- the ability to influence vehicle routing by avoiding current roadworks and unnecessary diversions through live communication of what is happening from resources on the ground.
- visualisation and interrogation of live congestion data, mapped against roadworks, enabling the most disruptive works to be easily identified and managed.
- a proven approach that can drive a step change in how live roadworks information can be exchanged and monitored across the industry.
