one.network, Skewb & Cadent collaborate to drive innovation

Download case study

Causeway one.network, Skewb & Cadent are working together to help deliver efficiencies in works planning, promotion and permit approvals for Cadent.

The Challenge

Before this partnership, all Cadent’s traffic management planning for street works for the connection of utility services to homes was outsourced. This was expensive, and created unnecessary delays in the permit approval process.

Communications about plans and permit approvals were a lengthy back-and-forth process via email. Plans could take up to ten days to produce and submit to highway authorities, and permit review time was four weeks. Planners at Cadent were routinely uncertain as to when and whether permits would be approved, and so often had to delay important works.

Cadent wanted to improve its planning efficiency and communication, as well as accelerate street works permit approvals.

The Solution

Skewb identified an opportunity to help Cadent work more effectively with highway authorities using the one.network platform. Now, Cadent is using the one.network's Planning and Coordination package, including the Traffic Management and Plan Share modules, to plan and plot street works and submit permits for approval to highway authorities, starting with Northamptonshire Council.

Using Plan Share, Cadent was able to bring forward street works planned in Northampton for the 18th of October to the 6th of September. Further communication via Plan Share meant that Northamptonshire Council asked to bring these works forward even earlier, to the 27th of August due to school holidays, meaning the works would take place eight weeks earlier than planned. This was a real win for both Cadent and its customers.

The added benefit is that this was all agreed in just two days, where previously, using traditional email communication, this would have taken up to four weeks.
