Cambridgeshire County Council have adopted one.network's Live Link technology to communicate road closures in real-time to major sat-navs
Adopting Live Link
Cambridgeshire County Council have been using one.network since 2011 to plan and coordinate works across the county and over the years, have adopted several of our modules, including our communications app: Live Link.
Live Link has enabled Cambridgeshire County Council to communicate both pre-planned and emergency road closures in real-time straight from the roadside, via a mobile app, directly to sat-nav systems, including Google, TomTom, Waze and Here technologies.
All road closures updates are also syndicated, via one.network, to Variable Message Signs on the roadside, and shared via email alerts and across Cambridgeshire County Council's social media pages, ensuring the public are kept up-to-date on road closures, both from behind the wheel and before they begin their journeys.
With this technology, Cambridgeshire County Council are able to communicate with drivers precisley and efficiently.
Minimise and mitigate congestion
by communicating road closures in real-time to help drivers divert earlier
Improve driver and roadside worker safety
by clearly communicating road closures via all major sat-navs
Enhance visibility of utility road closures
with a live view of closures on the road network
"Live Link helps us get real-time information out to people as quickly as possible. It's the fastest way to mitigate congestion and stop any build-up of traffic in urban areas."
Road Events and IHMC Manager at Cambridgeshire County Council
Now that Cambridgeshire County Council have experienced such success using Live Link as an authority, they plan to extend use for utility companies on the roadside too.
With Live Link, roadside utility workers will be able to send updates from the mobile app on their smartphones straight to sat-nav systems. ready for the travelling public to see.
Not only will this provide quicker communication of emergency closures to the public, but will also give the Cambridgeshire County Council IHMC staff enhanced visibility.
The end result will be improved communication of closures, less congestion on the roads, safer journeys for drivers and less roadside abuse towards onsite workers.
